Water filtration can protect a Hoshizaki ice machine and improve ice quality, but return on investment depends on the site’s water, equipment, maintenance, and cartridge costs. A useful ROI calculation replaces broad promises with measurements from the actual installation.
Test hardness, sediment, chlorine, and other site-specific conditions before selecting treatment. Match the filtration system to the machine’s required flow rate and the contaminants identified in the water. A filter that is too restrictive can reduce water flow, while the wrong media may not address the site’s primary problem.
Track cartridge price and replacement frequency, scheduled cleaning and descaling labor, service calls associated with water conditions, downtime, and any documented change in ice quality. Compare those costs over the same period.
Water quality affects ice appearance, taste, production, cleaning frequency, and component life. The right treatment starts with a current water test and the requirements of the installed Hoshizaki model.
Test for hardness, alkalinity, total dissolved solids, chlorine or chloramine, sediment, and other local concerns. Scale can restrict water flow and coat heat-transfer surfaces, while aggressive or improperly treated water can contribute to corrosion.
Select filtration or treatment for the measured water conditions, required flow, and equipment specification. A generic cartridge may not address hardness or disinfectant chemistry, and treatment that removes too much mineral content can also create problems. Follow current manufacturer guidance.
